I'm a web developer by day with a passion for making things in the physical world. Most of what I make is primarily out of wood, but I'll also use paper, cloth or metal depending on the project. I do the bulk of my work in a shed on our small homestead in southwest Iowa. I'm a busy husband and father, so as I get started on RUclips, new videos will be posted only as I have time to make and film the projects.
Make Drawer Pulls Without a Lathe // Easy DIY Drawer Pulls and Knobs
Making small drawer pulls without a lathe is actually quite fun, and easy. The main items you need are a powered drill, some dowels, a beautiful small piece of wood, and preferably some powered sanding equipment like a belt and spindle sander.
The back story:
I recently needed to make some drawer pulls for a bandsaw box I was making for my wife. Since I didn't have a lathe at the time (Which is not the case any more!), I had to get a little creative with the tools I did have in the shop. The process I tried out worked well, and was really fun!

DIY Card and Photo Display Stand // Limited Tools, Easy Project
Просмотров 17 тыс.5 лет назад
These easy-to-make card and photo holders look great, work well, and would make perfect gifts or products to sell at craft fairs or on Etsy. The angled 10 degree cut supports even thinner paper that would fall over if the slot were straight. They use a small amount of wood, and can be built with limited tools. These came about as I was prototyping an idea, and got fascinated with making this cu...

Photorealistic renders in Fusion 360! This is one aspect of Fusion that I absolutely love. With a couple of the right settings, and a little patience, you can get renders that leave people thinking they are looking at the finished product. Modern Inbox // DIY Stackable Desk Trays

This project started as an idea for a charging station, and took on a life of its own as I started designing, then modeling it out in Fusion 360. The finished product is a beautiful shallow set of stackable desk trays made from Sapele, Maple, and Maple plywood. I had so much fun on this project! Additional photos of the finished build are on my site: dnhandcrafted.com/video/inbox/#gallery Detai...
Creating Block Printed Shirts // Linocut Shirts // DIY
Просмотров 71 тыс.6 лет назад
I’d been trying all different methods for putting my logo on a shirt that didn’t involve purchasing a screen printing kit. My most repeatable, successful result involved the process of block printing I show in this video. No, the shirts aren’t for sale - but if that is something you would actually be interested in, please let me know in the comments. The companion article with a little more det...
Making a Shop Stool out of Two 2x4s
Просмотров 124 тыс.7 лет назад
When the Modern Maker Podcast put out the Two 2x4 challenge, I knew I wanted to try to build an entry. The constraint of using 70% of two 2x4s was really fun, and eventually led to this design that I demonstrate in this video. I was really happy with how the stool turned out, and am looking forward to making it again out of hardwood. Related Links: Modern Maker Podcast www.modernmakerpodcast.co...

How to Make a Banker’s Station for Monopoly
Просмотров 88 тыс.7 лет назад
I grew up loving the game of Monopoly, and so I was really excited when my oldest son learned to play and loved it as well! Since our version of the game didn't have something to hold the money or properties, I built a Banker’s Station for us to use. In this video, I make a second station and show you how I made it. I haven't made plans available yet, but let me know in the comments if that is ...
How to Make a Quarto Game
Просмотров 23 тыс.7 лет назад
After making several Quarto games, I decided to film the next batch and release a how-to video. This is a simple game to learn, but is a blast to play. I make no secret of the fact that I got started making Quarto games after watching Bob's video over at I Like to Make Stuff. Be sure to check out his video too: Quarto Tabletop Game // I Like to Make Stuff ruclips.net/video/GOEx37jXIhA/видео.htm...
that was very instructive for first time users. i have to review for some time to grasp the whole thin. i love your teaching
Wow
Fantastic series. Now, could you show how to take these files into UGS and cut them? Thank you!
Why would you glue before you finished carving?
Great lesson! I have one question for you. I have designed the thumb grip, but for some reason it is too high on the sketch. Is there a way to move down all of that work into the correct position? Thank you!
Awesome work. Please make more videos!
I don't have a shop so I don't have scraps lying around - but by golly I know where to get hold of UNLIMITED scraps. Don't have a bandsaw either. But recently I made my first spoon without ANY of the socially accepted carving tools except my SAK. Now I have a deep desire to make my own knife and fork. And bowl. And mug. By the way, my spoon is the most beautiful spoon in the whole history of wooden spoons.
You need more content!
nicely done
So awesome, very happy I came across this video
We have the same Monopoly Set. That was a nice Set but now i have a better one. I love my new Monopoly Board that doesn't Folds.
Thank you so much for this
Nicely made!
Doug!!!
I love the concept, the lines. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
Beautiful they look just lovely and handsome like you bro!
Nice work thanks
Love the videos! Would be great if they were updated to current fusion 360.
Would you consider selling one? I do not have the wood working tools needed to craft it.
Just taking the time to say I appreciate the work you put into this series. I was curious about fusion for woodworking after having toyed with Sketchup and all other tutorials are way too slow in pace with not nearly as much information as you give here. Thank you for putting these out! Also subscribing in the hopes to see more of your work! Maybe more details on cut lists, on a series on modeling different joinery? Cheers!
Good stuff
Great, thank you
Очень красивый. Просто чудо. 👍👍👍👍👍
I think games are going to play an even bigger role in our society in the nearby future. We are going to need as many games as possible to avoid boredom
currently I table in some woodworking projects......so this stool actually would be perfect to compliment the small workshop in my garage. is there dimensional drawing someplace to aid my build? Thanks . I may also say you have great video production skill to compliment your carpentry. JT in Cary, Illinois
thank you JT! I have more details over on Instructables: www.instructables.com/Modern-Shop-Stool-From-Two-24s/
Have you sold any before?
No, but have had folks ask to buy them! I haven’t sold my woodworking projects.
Wish I had the talent to do it bc dang that's awesome my 6yo has just started wanting to play
wow very cool😯😯😲😲
THANKS DOUG! I have been looking for a designing solution for my Mac for a long time and at 5:15 in this video, paused and went to get Fusion 360 (Personal). SO EXCITED! I haven't been in my shop for a bit and want to ramp back up. I was an AutoCad (2D) user for many years and while this will be a lot different, I'm ready for learning new stuff. I'll probably walk through this 4 part series to get my feet all sorts of wet. Thanks again - this free/powerful CAD find and your channel were gifts!
Great ideas for Christmas……… Thank you
Hi Doug! My name is JC and my question to you is how did you video your actions in Fusion 360?
I just stumbled across these videos and they were exactly what I was looking for. Nice and simple with just enough detail to learn new tricks, without taking hours to watch. Excellent job!
ruclips.net/video/b3z8qpzAYyc/видео.html This is how it´s made in Sweden. :)
Thanks for the video! Any curing process for the ink? how durable did you find the Speedball ink to be after some washes and use?
Google why should I NEVER use one side of a dado stack.
What kind of oil did you use?
I liked within 10 seconds and was not disappointed, the best video so far describing this process.
Thanks for the helpful video and free templates! Just what I was looking for,,,,,,,,,,
Great projects! Just what I was looking for to store xmas decorations!
What grit sandpaper are you using on the belt sander?
I’m pretty sure it was 120, but it’s been a long time since I filmed this! I normally have 80 or 120 on the belt sander.
Love to see the plans! Nice video
Man is this wood
How can i get the plans?
